CIF Boys Golf Championships at the Escondido Golf Course.  Afternoon start, so great light as the tournament wound down.  Caught a nice shot of a Cathedral Catholic High golfer spraying some sand in the good light.

Formal Installation Ceremony for The Honorable Cathy Ann Bencivengo, United States District Judge, San Diego Federal Courthouse.  If you ever want to feel really stupid, go to the federal courthouse and read the resumes of the sitting judges.  It’s uplifting to realize that our community leaders are exceptional people.

CBVA Women’s Open in Ocean Beach.  Mostly overcast with only about an hour or two of sunshine in the middle of the day.  Took advantage of the clouds and shot with the ocean and pier in the background.   Cleaned my lenses in the morning and noticed a huge difference in image quality.

CBVA Men’s Open Ocean Beach.  Nice light near the end of the day, but the backgrounds sucked.  I tried shooting tighter and from a lower angle to make the cars in the parking lot less distracting.

NCAA Water Polo Collegiate Championships Day 1.  Great light for the later games.  With no pressure to deliver a lot of images, I tried to be patient and capture a unique moment.  Unfortunately, I was either too tight or too loose when the moments came, or a player’s arm or a splash of water got in the way.  After editing the images at home, I found this picture of UCLA’s Emily Greenwood getting a hand shoved into her suit and throat.

Portraits of Sarah at Mission Gorge.  Field tested the Pocket Wizard TT5 again.  I love Pocket Wizard, but the TT5 is unusable.  It failed to trigger my remote flashes on a consistent basis, and consistently failed as a remote receiver.  Anyone want a used TT5?

Mission Bay Little League.  I haven’t shot baseball in a long time.  I’m really liking the lighting and the shooting positions at the local little league field.

SDSU Softball vs. Boise State.  Tried a few different things today.  Tried using the pole camera remote with a 1d instead of the 5d.  I prefer using the 5d because of the full frame stretch effect with a wide angle lens, but today I decided to go for the faster frames per second.  With new netting covering up the inner photo wells, I decided to try shooting from the right field line and found that the sight lines to the infielders are much better.

Mission Bay Little League.  Had more fun shooting today’s little league game than any MLB event in recent memory.  Lots of unusual plays, lots of funny facial expressions, good shooting angles, nice light near the end of the day.

Portraits of Sydney at Sunset Cliffs.  I bought a Pocket Wizard TT5 flex recently.  I heard that they are capable of increasing the flash sync in any camera/strobe setup.  I was eager to try them out since most of my portrait work is done outdoors where large f/stops are almost impossible.  After fiddling around with the TT5 at home, and adjusting the settings using Pocket Wizard’s software utility, I was ready for a field test.  Unfortunately, the unit didn’t work, and I wasn’t able to troubleshoot the problem.  I’ll go back to the drawing board and hopefully get it working right.
